Mires is proud of Kaleidoscope’s breakfast grillers, which come with a raspberry chili dipping sauce on the side. “We get our car orders out quick and you can also get food in the drive-through,” he said. He touts the drive-through service at the Athens location. “They love the baristas,” said regional manager Al Mires, who also oversees Kaleidoscope’s kiosks on North Street in Anderson and inside the Mt. Loyal customers, some waiting when the door opens, include veterans, law enforcement officers, workers from nearby offices and businesses, and parents dropping kids off at Sequoia school. In other words, it has a lot of flavors for a place without a big traditional kitchen. Kaleidoscope Coffee Co. on Athens Avenue in Redding serves a dizzying array of colorful food items: hot and cold wraps, tacos, salads, pastries, cookies, gourmet chocolate bars, kombucha and, of course, hot and cold coffee and chai drinks. Every time I visit, the name of the place seems more apt.
