In 2013, Cartoon Network launched “Steven Universe”, the series created by Rebecca, which became one most appreciated CN programs, by critics and public alike, and which was awarded with many nominations for international awards, including a Primetime Emmy Award in 2018. The show’s creator, Rebecca Sugar, is the first non-male in Cartoon Network history to have created and led her own animated series, and just weeks ago, she reached another milestone: Steven. Moreover, in that period she was also famous and appreciated by “Adventure Time” fans for the artistic and stylistic quality of the songs written for the programme. Working for the show created by Pendleton Ward led her to be nominated for the Emmy Awards and to win the Annie Award. Rebecca Sugar, the creator of popular cartoon Steven Universe, has issued an apology in light of online controversy sparked by the recently released Steven Universe: Art & Origins artbook. After graduating from the School of Visual Arts with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Animation, Rebecca Sugar (class of 1987) became part of the creative team in the cult series of Cartoon Network “Adventure Time” as author and storyboard artist in 2009. Rebecca Sugar, a bisexual woman, managed to thrive in the animation industry based on her own talents and skills, and is working to create an environment that is more accepting of people from all different backgrounds.
